Our pastor, Father David L. Huffman, was ordained to the priesthood January 15, 1972 at St. Henry Church, Harriettsville. Immediately after ordination, he was assigned to teach at St. Edward High School, Carrollton, while residing at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Carrollton, and then St. Joseph Church, Amsterdam.
Later, Father Huffman taught at Catholic Central High School, Steubenville; served as chaplain at St. John Medical Center, Steubenville; and was on staff at The Steubenville Register.
Father Huffman became administrator and then pastor of Our Lady of North American Martyrs, Steubenville.
He was assigned as pastor of St. Ambrose Church, Little Hocking, in 1991, and from 2008-present, he has been pastor of St. Joseph and St. Lawrence O'Toole, Ironton, and administrator of St. Mary Mission, Pine Grove. During his pastorate there, Father Huffman oversaw the construction of a new 2.5 million-dollar Parish Life Center, adjacent to St. Joseph Church, which was completely paid for shortly after its completion in 2018. The 18,000-square-foot facility includes a regulation size basketball court, a concession room and a small restaurant-type room. During his time in Ironton/Pine Grove Catholic Community, the Lawrence Central School with playground was purchasedat a cost of $300,000 which was "a bargin and a steal for what it would cost to build," according to Father Huffman.
Father Huffman added, "Our Lady of Fatima Shrine is well kept with the support of three local Knights of Columbus councils. And, all three churches and two schools are financially strong."
As of July 1, he began his second stint as pastor of St. Ambrose, Little Hocking. Father Huffman spearheaded the combining of parishes in Belpre and Vincent and the building of St. Ambrose Church, which seats 500 people. It also provides offices and classrooms, an adjoining social hall, and a nearby rectory. the church was opened October 3, 1998, and the $7 million structure was debt-free by 2005.
Throughout the years, in addition, Father Huffman has served as diocesan vocations director and on the Ohio Bishops' Advisory Council.
Father Huffman said, "To all that parishioners, relatives and friends did, I only added Saran Wrap, and that isn't worth very much!"
